Don't
count Bobby out, he is back and ready for another round. His
new album is due out May of this year and he is bringing more
than sexy back. With his undeniable voice and sexy lyrics, he
is ready to melt our hearts. He reminices on what has
made him, what will keep him relevant ,with a little flirting
on the side.
J.M: What
is the first single off your album?
B.V: Its
called Anonymous
J.M: Why
did you pick that song as your first single?
B.V: Well
first of all it’s a real hot song but I think that it’s
a perfect format for radio and these days you got to have something
that plays on radio. It sets the tone for everything else.
J.M: In
terms of the album, how does this one differ from your debut?
B.V: My
first album I worked with Tim and Bob, they (produced) like 95%
of the album. This time I got a chance due to the success of my
first album to have a bigger budget, so I was able to work with
people like Timberland, B. Cox and Rodney Jerkins. I worked with
a lot of these big name producers and that was cool. I was able
to spread my wings and fly a little bit
J.M: Did
you write any of the songs?
B.V: Yeah,
I wrote about 80% of the album
J.M: Now
what would you say your favorite song on the album is?
B.V: I
got to say all of them really. I recorded like 60 songs. Getting
them down to 14 was like putting together a dream team. I got a
lot of great songs on there.
J.M: Do
you know what your next single will be?
B.V: I
don’t know, Ill probably just let the fans decide whatever
they are really feeling.
J.M: Back
in the day when you were transitioning from being in a singing
group (going on tours, you saw yourself on TV, etc) you had to
go back to school for a little bit. How was that transition back
to the normal life?
B.V: It
was tough honestly, because people knew who I was and everywhere
I would go [like] in the mall they would say, “Hey you that
boy from Mista, when yall coming back out?”. I actually went
back to high school, in 12th grade, so even in school, it was cool.
I went to school with all my home boys and friends but still people
were looking at me like “He think he all that” or when
you down they will want to laugh in your face so it was tough.
After that we tried to get the group (Mista) back together but
we weren’t able to. So I went to college, Clark Atlanta University
and I played sports like baseball, football and was also in the
studio every night. That was my daily routine; go to class in the
morning, baseball practice after class and studio all night.
J.M: What
if singing didn’t work out for you, what do you see yourself
doing right now?
B.V: Really
nothing because that’s really my passion and I’m the
kind of person where I’m going to die trying. I would have
been in the studio just working until someone accepted me. I would
have had to do that.
J.M: A
lot of your songs are about love, having love, losing it. Are
there any first hand experiences from personal relationships?
B.V: Well
at the end of the day women are my motivation and inspiration.
I love women and I write about either dreaming about being with
a particular girl or a dream type of relationship or I live vicariously
through others. A lot of my homeboys and I will be just chilling
and one of them will bust through the door of the house talking “My
girl is tripping, she cussed me out because I did this…” I’ll
be like “For real , let me go write a song about it” (laughs).
I kind of just look around at what’s going on in the world
with relationships and I write about them.
J.M: I
know all your female fans want to know, are you single or in
a relationship right now?
B.V: Nah
I’m single. I’m really focused on my music right now.
I travel so much that it’s kind of hard to keep a healthy
relationship. I’m always on the go. I’m trying to fall
in love so I’m looking for it.
JM: You’re
looking for that special one.
B.V: I
need to see you because you might be her. You married?
J.M: Not
yet…
B.V: That
means I still got a chance (laughs).
J.M: In
terms of current R&B artists out now who do you like, listen
to and respect in the game?
B.V: My
vibe is a little different from everyone else. In my CD changer
I got Jodeci albums. I definitely respect R. Kelly because he has
been doing it for a long time. I respect artists that have turned
this into a career. It’s easy to come out with one or two
albums but when you’ve been doing it for a long time, look
at Ron Isley, R Kelly, Lionel Richie, Babyface. I have the up most
respect for people like that. All the people that are coming up
with me, I definitely appreciate everything they are doing for
R&B. A lot of the R&B singers I’m cool with. We got
good relationships. Staying in it is the toughest part. Anybody
can make a hit but not everyone can make consistent hits.
J.M: So
in terms of you staying consistent and staying around for along
time, what are your future plans? Do you have any other
aspirations other than singing like business or acting?
B.V: I’m
actually working on my Bobby V jeans for women it’s going
to be like a high end women jeans line. I’m trying to launch
my record label real soon. It’s called the Dream Music Group
because all of this is a dream for me. I’m definitely trying
to be an executive. After being successful as an artist I want
to be able to put on my executive hat and give other people the
opportunity and be able to do some of that “P-Diddy” (laughs).
J.M: When
can we expect a video?
B.V: I’m
shooting the video this weekend in LA. It should be out in the
next two and half to three weeks.
J.M: When
you hear the name Empress, or a female says “I'm an Empress”,
what comes to your mind?
B.V: A
queen. I would look at the word Emperor and that’s
like a King so Empress definitely is a Queen. That’s the
first thing that comes to my mind. end
