Find Your Dream Job
- Stephanie Carberry

Finding a dream job is something we all wish for and it is also something we all often believe is unattainable. But the truth is that, as cliché as it may sound, anything you want to do you can. We all have ambitions, visions of our ideal life so why sit back and hope for something you want when you can go out and get it. That’s right, finding your ideal career takes work ladies. Nothing is going to fall into our laps no matter how often we all wish it would but if we’re willing to pursue what we want, I have no doubt that we will achieve it. So here are some ways to obtain that job you really want even when it seems unreachable:

Don’t stop dreaming but start paying attention to your goals, ideals, and desires. Your dreams tell you a lot about yourself, so don’t ignore them. What is it that you imagine yourself doing? When you think about your future 5 years from now, where are you and what are you doing? What makes you most happy? These things are significant and will give you insight into what your dream job is. From there things are easier, you already know what you want to do and that’s half the battle.

Believe in yourself and your ability. Don’t be afraid. Have confidence in who you are and what you believe you can accomplish. Be aggressive, dreams don’t fall into anyone’s lap. Whatever you want in life you have to work for and that’s the reward in the end. It doesn’t matter what the scope of your dream is, it can be big or little that’s not important. What is important is what it means to you and how much you want it.

Time is not your enemy. Don’t think because too much time has passed or because you’ve reached a certain age that what you wanted for yourself is no longer possible. Sure we all have to compromise in life or stop what we want for the sake of loved ones or some other event that takes priority. Dreams will without a doubt alter and morph over time but that does not mean the dream is defunct and impossible. Don’t believe the hype about having to have everything right now or never. Time allows you to grow, mature and truly figure out who you are and how dreams can be a real part of your life.

Utilize the help that is available. There are many methods of assistance out there. If you are having trouble figuring out how to get started don’t get frustrated. Research is the definite key. Look to places like your local library or bookstore. There are numerous books published about choosing a career path and the steps you need to take to get there. If you can’t afford to buy one of these books or subscribe to the many services offered by career counselors or employment agencies don’t worry, most of the info given can be found somewhere else free.

The resume. Your resume is one the most important tools in landing your dream job. It is what the majority of perspective employers first see and it is the determining factor in whether you will get a call or not. Getting assistance with this from a professional such as a career counselor is probably the best way to go.

Do your homework because if you don’t they’ll know it. Go into your interviews and/or your job search aware of the company or organization that you’re meeting with or interested in. Become as knowledgeable about the field that interests you as you possibly can. Read anything you can, speak to as many people in that field as you can, keep in contact with people who might be able to help you and don’t be afraid to ask.

The most important step, is remaining positive. Rejection is sure to be a part of your search. There will always be someone with a better education, with more experience, or who just seemed to fit better with a certain position then you did. Remember the old saying 'one man’s trash is another man’s treasure'. end
